A Conversation with Ryan
What advice would you give a prospective student considering East Texas A&M?
The overall college search process can be overwhelming at times, so don't be afraid to ask questions. There are so many great resources, faculty and staff here to assist you. So, if you need help, let us know.
What advice would you give a prospective or current student about making the most of their college experience?
GET INVOLVED! These are some of the greatest years of your life. Of course, we want you to succeed inside the classroom, but the college experience is more than just classes. It is about relationships and connections you make by joining organizations. It’s about the history and tradition of campus and getting involved in the campus culture. This is your time to come out of your shell or to find yourself. Make the most of it!
What advice would you give a prospective or current student about being successful in class?
You have to go to class to be successful in class, first and foremost. Just being there shows discipline and a ‘want to'. Introduce yourself to your professor, take notes, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Like I say over and over: “Use the number of great resources we have around campus. We are here to help!”
How does the university help students feel involved and connected to the university community?
Tradition, activities and opportunities to be involved. There are so many avenues here at ETAMU that will help students find that sense of belonging. They just have to be willing to take the first step.
How can students get involved in your department?
Become a B1G Mentor! If a student has a passion for helping other students, there is nothing more rewarding than being one of our mentors. If you need a mentor, come by and talk with us, and we will set you up with one of our great upperclassmen mentors.
